Grand Piano Transport Vienna, Lower Austria & Burgenland
Specialist grand piano transport with leg removal, protective padding and full transit insurance — from baby grands to concert grands.
Why a grand piano transport differs from an upright move

A grand piano is not a simple upright — it can be between 180 and 290 cm long and weigh up to 500 kg. The three legs and the pedal lyre must be removed before transport so the instrument can be safely moved lying on its side. This requires tools, knowledge of the correct assembly sequence, and a specialist transport board that supports the body evenly.
The grand body has a high-gloss or satin lacquer finish bonded to bare wood. Even brief impacts or contact with a hard surface can cause permanent scratches. Padded blankets alone are therefore not sufficient — the coverage must be gapless, especially at edges, corners, and the keyboard frame.
The grand mechanism adds further sensitivity. The up to 88 hammer heads and repetition action respond to temperature swings, humidity, and vibration. We therefore transport grands exclusively in climate-controlled or well-ventilated vehicles, and document temperature and humidity upon request.

Calculate exact priceWhy a general mover is the wrong choice for a grand piano
A grand piano worth € 30,000 or more demands specialist expertise. General moving companies rarely have the correct tools for leg removal, no experience-based grip positions when carrying, and no transport boards for the grand body. The result: scratched lacquer surfaces, bent pedal mechanisms or — in the worst case — a broken leg that damages the action on impact.
Piano Shift transports exclusively keyboard instruments. Our team knows the typical weak points of every grand model, uses only piano-specific packaging materials, and is familiar with all common brands — Steinway, Bösendorfer, Yamaha, Kawai, Bechstein. The transport insurance covers the replacement value of the instrument.
Frequently asked questions about grand piano transport
Do the grand piano legs need to be removed?
Yes, a proper grand piano transport requires removing all three legs and the pedal lyre. The body of the grand is then moved in a lying position on a specialized transport board. Our technicians document the disassembly and reassemble the instrument correctly at the destination.
How do you protect the mechanism during transport?
The open lid is secured with tape, and the keyboard is covered with a protective cover. The body is fully wrapped in multi-layer padded blankets and secured with ratchet straps. The strings and mechanism remain protected by the horizontal position during transport.
What does a grand piano transport in Vienna cost?
A grand piano transport in Vienna starts from € 228,- for a baby grand (up to 180 cm) at ground-floor level. Concert grands start from € 420,-. Floors without an elevator are charged additionally per floor. Use our price calculator for an exact quote.
